Wisd6ms Newsletter - Edition 8 April 09 THE FOOD MATRIX Oh food food REAL food what have we done to you! Without fail everyday at some point I’m having a conversation about food in some form or another, its usually with clients or fiends and it usually involves offering suggestions on a healthier alternative choice to what they are currently choosing and how this is going to help to improve their health and or energy in some way. With so much conflicting information and the relentless marketing from food manufactures, it is easy to become overwhelmed and confused in deciding just what constitutes a healthy diet these days. Whole food or REAL food as I like to call it honors the basic integrity of food. Following a diet that is organic, vegetarian, vegan, low fat or gluten free is now guarantee that it is healthy. I believe that there are 5 universal keys or truths that create the basis of a healthy diet. KEY number one: Honor Mother Nature the way she intended – Sustainable farming (either organically or biodynamically in harmony and respect for Mother Nature. Real food is produced from naturally healthy and rich soils free of pesticides insecticides and other man made chemicals used in genetically engineered foods that strip the soil of its natural nutrients, after all nutrients are what the body feeds off! KEY number two: Honor the natural state and life span of food - Food should be REAL made with REAL and natural ingredients not from chemicals that mimic them or from the adding of preservatives, coloring and flavorings that alters a foods life span, appearance and taste creating a matrix food (an illusion of its truth) Honoring the appropriate preparation of various foods such as grains, nuts, seeds and pulses by soaking, sprouting or fermenting them is essential so that the body can absorb all its nutrients that are often inhibited through inappropriate food preparation and food manufacturers short comings in the name of ‘convenience’, but to what extent are we compromising our long term health for the sake of ‘convenience’. I think current child obesity rates, early onset diabetes and heart disease clearly answers this. KEY number three: Honoring the Life Force held in food- The more alive your food is the more alive you are! Food should be refined as little as possible. The life Force or energy held in food is what our body’s absorb when we eat it and when food is refined, its nutrients and life force is lost and no enriching or adding back will replace its loss or make it whole again. KEY number four Honor your own body’s individual needs – Just as we all have our own unique eye color, body shape, and look, the same is true of our biochemical individuality and metabolic needs. One mans food can be another mans poison and it is important to take the time to feel into what foods suits your body and what ratio of these foods your body thrives off. KEY number five Honor your relationship with food – It is important to develop a healthy relationship with food. Food offers us more than just its physical nutrients – Each meal offers an opportunity to remember how Mother Nature provides for and sustains us. Our body is more receptive to the nourishing and healing powers of food when we embrace it with joy, love and appreciation. It’s all well and good to have a nutritionally dense meal but if you don’t enjoy it your body is less likely to accept all that that meal has to offer. I truly love my food; I savor and enjoy every meal and deny myself nothing!
