Wisd6ms Newsletter - Edition 7 February/March 09 BECOME INSPIRED BECAUSE YOU CAN DO IT TOO One of my clients Jim has kindly allowed me to use him as an example of what can be achieved in no time at all when he decided to integrate to a few simple and natural ancient wisdoms into his life. Jim was referred to me 8 months ago and within 4 months he had made some significant improvements in all aspects of his health. When the guidance of a caring & knowledgeable trainer who is passionate about their clients well being is matched with the commitment and willingness of a client who is ready to throw away all their old beliefs around how to train / lose weight and put on muscle mass and start to adopt lifestyle habits / food choices and exercises that completely oppose that of the recommended and politically correct guidelines its amazing what can happen! It didn’t take long to convince Jim of the essential role and benefits that consuming adequate amounts of quality saturated fats from sources such as certified organic meat, organ meats, butter and coconut oil had on the body. A recommendation that would horrify most minds that follow the government or Heart Foundation guidelines for a healthy diet. But when Jim started to notice a difference in not just his energy levels, mental clarity and improved concentration at work, but also his strength in the gym, it was like speaking to the converted and for Jim there was no turning back! Jim cut back significantly on processed carbohydrates like pasta, rice and bread and began eating more in accordance to his metabolic type…that of a protein type who flourishes on adequate amounts of quality organic fat and protein and moderate amounts of carbohydrates from sources such as vegetables, salad pumpkin, kumara, and low GI fruit like green apples and pears Jim increased his water intake from 1 liters to 2.5 liters a day still leaving room for improvement…3litres would be ideal for Jim’s body weight!! A quick calculation to determine who much water you as an individual needs is 0.033 x kg (your weight) = number of liters required per day before any stimulants such as coffee, alcohol or exercise etc. Jim’s choice of water was always good, drinking brands like Fiji, Evian and Australian artisan water. Jim’s stress levels have significantly reduced since we have worked on many beliefs and limiting ideas that no longer leave Jim feeling disempowered. We are still working on Jims sleeping habits but with significant changes in all other areas Jim’s overall health, fitness and state of well being has improved dramatically. A few words from Jim…. “When I was originally recommended to see Jo about training I was skeptical about the whole alternative or holistic approach to training. As a 40 year old man my main goal was to loose weight, put on some lean muscle, improve my posture and hopefully get rid of the pain and regain full movement of my shoulder as a result of a frozen shoulder for the past 12 months. I began training with Jo at the beginning of September 2008 which coincided with the beginning of our fasting month. Reframing from eating anything all day till sunset and then training after sunset meant my energy levels were very low. Jo designed a program that accommodated how my body was feeling physically and emotionally. I remember Jo describing that this month would be a month of “working in” rather than “working out” basically a month spent nurturing and cultivating my energy levels as opposed to expending them further when I had little energy left to use. So for this month during fasting I was taught how to work with my body using exercises to support it and cope with the stress of fasting whilst at the same time enjoy the mental satisfaction of doing something active in the evenings. After that month Jo began to increase my training load in conjunction with dietary advice and spiritual coaching. I have not looked back. Six months later it is the best thing I have done in regards to exercise and personal spiritual growth. The pain in my right shoulder has gone and I am close to having full range of movement back. I am happy with the amount of weight I have lost and the lean muscle I have put on. The improvements in my posture and flexibility have been awesome. My body feels strong, my spirit is awesome and my positive mental attitude is great not to mention in all modesty how wonderful my body looks in the short time I have trained! Each session is interesting and challenging with every day making small milestones in strength and advancement in exercises. Today I don’t view it as training but it’s a part of my life that gives me loads of fun. The growth I have made spiritually with Jo’s guidance and assistance has awakened a part of me that has been dormant for too long. If I can offer any advice to anyone looking to begin their journey it would be that once the wheels of awakening and physical and spiritual growth are set in motion you will effortlessly find yourself at a place that you will be positive, energized and alive. But more importantly you will feel this for yourself and not for any external validation or approval and your soul will thank you” Workshop News Hungry 4 Health Workshop.
