The power of choice

What do you choose as the currency of life?

My currency of life is energy. Some may consider their currency to be money, but even then money is simply a form of energy that we give and receive and is a flexion of our choices and how we value our choices, which at times can be more expensive than others. As I recently experienced through one too many parking tickets, I quickly choose to be more careful where I parked and the time I had as it was costing me unnecessary energy in an area of my life ($$$) I didn’t want to spend!!

In my own personal pursuit for greater health, joy and peace, I have come to realize just how powerful the management of my personal energy is. I feel that there are two vital keys to creating a healthy and happy soul. The first is to identify the various sources from which we acquire and manage our personal energy whether it is physical, emotional or mental energy and the second is to understand the power of choice and identify why, who and what influences our choices! After all the very act of making a choice requires the use of our energy.
Just how powerful is the power of choice?
Let’s look at the power of choice in relationship to food.
We can make a food choice that nourishes, heals and gives energy to our body or a food choice that depletes us further of energy and leaves us with the symptoms of a choice that didn’t serve us e.g. bloating, cramping and indigestion. The same is true of exercise. We can make a choice that leaves us feeling invigorated and energized or exhausted and even further depleted of energy than when we started.
This analogy of choice can be applied to all that we are in relationship with, whether that is food, exercise, our family, friends, colleagues or partners. Whether it’s your relationship with yourself, your hobbies, your passion, your creative expression or your spiritual practice, I’d say that choice is potent in its power to animate the reality that we are creating for ourselves!

It can be a very insightful exercise to ask yourself why, who and what influences and controls your choices, especially when we become conscious to how our physical experiences are constantly reflecting our conscious and unconscious choices. Reoccurring injuries, aches and pain, depression, emotional challenges and ultimately all disease itself is the physical representation of the power of choice.
The power of choice it’s self means taking responsibility for your energy and how it affects not only you but all those that cross your path.

How aware are you of why, who and what influences your choices?

Exercise of the month: Supine lateral ball roll

Supine lateral ball roll is a whole body exercise and strengthens the body through all plans of movement (sagital, frontal and transverse)

From a sitting position on a Swiss Ball, roll back so that your head, shoulders and upper back are supported by the ball.

Lift your hips up so that they are in line with your knees and shoulders.
Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth.

Hold your body in perfect alignment (hips and arms should stay parallel to the floor) and shuffle your feet as you
roll across the ball to one side.
Pause for 3-5 seconds and then return back to the centre.
Repeat up to 5 times on each side.

Move only as far to the side as you comfortably can, while holding perfect alignment. You may find you can only
move an inch or two; that is fine.
