Wisd6ms Newsletter - Edition 12 August 09 Health and Fitness, do they go hand in hand? Does being physically fit automatically mean you’re healthy? These words are often used hand in hand and it’s easy to assume that if someone is fit then they must be healthy but alas this is not always the case, in fact more often than not I find physically fit people to be as prone to catching a cold, flu or other viruses as the unfit person. So why is this and what creates a healthy immune system regardless of whether you are physically fit or not? There are of course a number of contributing factors all of which can be simply categorized into 6 areas and yes you guessed it these make up the 6 wisdoms! Otherwise known as the 6 foundation principles to optimal health, fitness and wellbeing. None of them are independent of each other, they work as an integrated system of systems which relies on the equal health of one another to create a healthy constitution within us. Let’s consider food and nutrition, the forth wisdom… Food can be both the problem and the solution to an overwhelming number of health and immune issues because it remains one area that is riddled with conflicting, misleading and most of the time incorrect information heavily indorsed by food manufactures interested in the health of their profits not your body. Would we change our food choices to support our health if we really new the truth, understood it appreciated and embraced it? Some unhealthy choices are made consciously even when we know better, other times its out of plane ignorance but it saddens me the most when an individuals good intentions for making a healthier choice fall pray to believing the misleading and incorrect information feed to us through food manufactures and government bodies that are supposed to carry credibility within the health industry such as the Heart Foundation! Only last night I saw a new add on the TV targeted at parents by using children’s health as the focus, warning against the dangers of butter and saturated animal fat as a precursor to high cholesterol and heart disease. Instead it was recommended for us to consume margarine from plant based oils as our source of fat. If you would like to know why these sorts of recommendations are part of the cause for the increased levels of obesity diabetes and heart disease of today then take a moment to read these two articles written by Sarah Luck a successful and highly creditable naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist who specializes in fertility and polycystic ovarian syndrome. http://www.the-natural-health-hub.com/healthy-fat.html http://www.the-natural-health-hub.com/unhealthy-foods.html So if your serious about wanting to get healthy not just fit and you feel your knowledge around food and how to qualify a healthy food choice is your weakest link in the 6 foundational principles then I have no doubt that you will resonate with one or more of our Hungry 4 Health Cook 4 Health demonstrations coming up in August and September… | | SLOW COOKING FOR FAST PEOPLE – learn about the benefits of slow cooking.
